THE BEST WAY TO VISIT EL LIMON WATERFALL (SALTO EL LIMON)

The most famous waterfall in the Dominican Republic is EL Limon Waterfall, also known as Cascada de Limon or Salto El Limon in Spanish, and is an absolute must see when you’re traveling to the DR. It located in the beautiful province of Samana, with 50 meters of cascading water and 3 secret waterfalls nearby that you can access with the tour mentioned below.

HOW TO GET TO EL LIMON WATERFALL FROM SABANA DE LA MAR

There are several ways to get there, we chose the route with the least amount of time, the most beautiful views, and even added in an extra adventure on our way to Samama (we visited Los Haitises National Park).

GETTING FROM SABANA DE LAR MAR TO SAMANA: hop on a ferry for 500 DOP! The bus is a 7 hour drive but the ferry is a 40 minute to an hour ride and then another hour drive to get from Samana to El Limon. The ferry in Sabana De Lar Mar is located right next to Caney Restaurant and the last ferry leaves at 3pm (fair warning- the pier looks like its under construction but just keep walking past the “Sabana De Lar Mar A Novia De La Bahia” sign and ask a local about the ferry. A tiny little boat should take you to the larger ferry boat from the pier.

GETTING FROM SAMANA TO EL LIMON: When in Samana, find the “bus” station where guaguas (basically trucks with seats in the bed) are ready to take you to all parts of the Samana Province. The bus station is called Parada Samana- Las Galeras on google maps. I believe the ride was 250 DOP.

There are day trips from Punta Cana by bus or with tour groups, but to avoid rushing and actually getting to see some hidden gems I suggest staying near El Limon and discover the beaches nearby.

If you are thinking about adding Los Haitises National Park to your adventure, check out the video below 🙂

WHERE TO STAY IN SAMANA:

Nature lovers- this secluded haven is for YOU.

SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES OF SAMANA ECOLODGE:

“The lodge is completely independant with solar panels, water wells and fresh spring streams running through the land. The kitchen provides farm to table breakfasts, fresh hand picked fruits & veggies daily. Every stick, palm roofing or wood has been bought locally putting money back into the community, creating jobs and opportunity in the town of El Limón.”

We had the opportunity to stay at the Samana Ecolodge located only 15 minutes away and actually connected us to the tour to El Limon + 3 secret waterfalls AND a homemade dinner from the tour guides grandma!

Not only is this place absolutely gorgeous, it gives a peaceful place for you to further connect with nature. Check out their jungle bungalows here.

BEST TOUR TO EL LIMON WATERFALL WITH 3 SECRET WATERFALLS

I recommend walking vs taking a horse because you get to see so much MORE and are not using animals to do something you can do- walk. The horses also poop all over the trail which make it smell bad so it is best to reduce the amount of horses are going down there.

The ecolodge set us up with a tour with an amazing local guide, Jefferson who has discovered other hidden gems around the main El Limon Waterfall from his many adventures into the forest he grew up so close too.

Included in the tour is a guided trek to 4 different waterfalls, transportation to the waterfall from the Ecolodge and a lunch provided by Jefferson’s grandmother. It is such such an authentic and beautiful way to experience the El Limon Waterfall and I could not recommend a stay or experience more than this one!

Definitely put this waterfall tour on your DR bucketlist, it is a MUST SEE!

I hope this helps you plan your Dominican Republic adventure to EL Limon! Happy traveling my friends 🙂
